Home Again

I woke to the rustling of the leaves,
As they hug the bark,
Tighter each day.
I woke to the cooing of the birds,
As the perch elegantly,
With no fear.
I woke to the woodpecker,
Busy with its pecking,
A new home.
I jump up from bed,
The sounds this time different,
Not the sweet birds or leaves,
But big machines.
And in one quick move,
The homes of my dear friends
The birds and leaves,
Fell with the tree,
But there was a sigh,
As the tree fell,
A sigh of maybe next time,
Things would be better.
